It was truly inspirational to be able to witness first hand the work of these vets and volunteers. They held veterinary clinics in Akumal Pueblo, Akumal Playa, Chemuyil, Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras Pueblo. They did 306 surgeries and helped many animals. The local people were incredibly supportive and young and old turned out to help.
On behalf of all the volunteers from VIDAS, Veterinarios Internacionales Dedicados a Animales Sanos, I would like to thank the many, many people who helped support them, and special thanks to the following companies: Susan Reagan and Turtle Bay Café for their help and generous donations of their delicious breakfasts; The entire staff at Hotel Akumal Caribe and Lol-Ha Restaurant for the wonderful reception and all their help; CEA and Karen Jenkins for their help with transportation; CEA, Dani and Scott at Sac-Be and Lucy James for help with advertising; Linda at Playa Caribe, Lucy James and Family at Casa Sansu and Laura Bush at Villas Maya for housing; Dr. Claudia Lewy-Sanchez and her staff at Clinica Veterinaria de Playa del Carmen for their assistance and facility; and Xel-Ha for their hospitality and allowing the veterinarians and volunteers a chance to unwind and soak up the beauty of the park after working so hard all week. VIDAS’ next clinic is scheduled for November 10 – 15, 2003.
