Welcome to VIDAS
Oso
playa july 2005
Oso is a sweet little brown shepherd mix who showed up to the VIDAS July clinic. The veterinarians and veterinary students who were performing pre-surgery physical examinations on all of the incoming patients noticed immediately that something was wrong. They discovered that Oso was unable to breathe through his nose and was bleeding from it. He was quickly anesthetized and a thorough examination was performed on his nose and mouth. It was discovered that Oso had a rotten tooth which had created an oronasal fistula, or infected passsageway from his mouth to his nose. The infection had spread from his tooth into his jawbone and into his sinuses, creating a lot of pain and preventing him from breathing properly. To make matters worse, any time he ate, food particles would travel through the hole in his mouth and into his sinuses. With the help of our dedicated veterinary students supervising his anesthesia, Oso's offending tooth was pulled and the fistula flushed clean and stitched shut. Thanks to the VIDAS crew, Oso is breathing and eating much more comfortably now!
