June 2002 Playa del Carmen Clinic
In June of 2002 six veterinary students and two veterinarians journeyed to Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula with a mission. Our goal was to provide free veterinary care to those who could not otherwise afford it. During the five days that we spent in Playa del Carmen we successfully treated one hundred dogs and cats. This included spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, dewormings as well as the distribution of heartworm preventative.
While we did help 100 animals, there are still thousands of cats and dogs without adequate food, water, shelter or love. The heart of this problem is pet overpopulation. This is why VIDAS is dedicated to providing safe, free sterilization to the cats and dogs of the Yucatan.
